Ladies Teams
There has always been a great tradition of Gaelic Football in Ballylanders (men’s), and in the year 2000 the Ladies Gaelic Football Club was set up. In the early years the club concentrated on developing the under age players. Teams were entered in the County Championship at under 12, under 14, under 16 and minor. The work carried out in those early days began to bear fruit, when in 2007 the first Under 16 County Title was won by the club. Also in that same year the Under 14 Team qualified to represent Limerick in Feile Peil. To achieve this honour, the under 14 team had to win a special competition involving all the top teams in the county. This was a remarkable achievement for the club, in such a short space of time.
That year Feile was held in Leitrim and it was a wonderful experience for all players , officials and parents to have been involved. The entire panel, mentors and supporters spent the weekend in Leitrim, playing three games in their group, winning two of them. Several of these players are currently on the present adult team.
During the early years the adult team played in the junior championship with little success. In 2009 Ballylanders reached their first County Junior Final, but were narrowly beaten by Oola. However in 2010 they were back in the final again, and this time they had a big win over Old Mill. As a result of this win, Ballylanders would be taking part in the Intermediate Championship for the first time in 2011.
The team proved they were very capable of performing well at this level by beating Monagea , Oola and Monaleen to reach the Intermediate county final in 2011. Mungret were their opponents is the final, but proved too experienced and were victorious on the day. In 2012 Ballylanders once more reached the final but this time they were beaten by Monagea.
